Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do when I receive a California driving citation?

Once you get a citation, within 2—3 weeks you will receive a courtesy notice from the court that handled your citation. If the court authorizes you to do so, you should take the opportunity to enroll in a traffic violator school. You can pay your state-required fee and traffic school enrollment fees to start your classes immediately. There is also the opportunity to contest your citation, but you must have convincing evidence to win your case.

Am I eligible to take a California traffic violator course?

The state of California sends out a notice of eligibility in cases where someone is eligible to take a traffic violator course. However, if you didn’t receive a notice, you can contact your court and request to take a traffic school course. In many cases, a judge will allow you to take one.

How long do I have after I receive my ticket from the DMV to complete a traffic school course?

The exact amount of time you have to complete your traffic school course varies. However, a general rule of thumb is that you’ll have 60 days from when you receive your notice to complete the course. Your notice will tell you your exact due date, so make sure to check the notice.

Do I have an opportunity to retake the traffic violator course if I fail?

No, not for the next 18 months. Upon your registration, you are not allowed to enroll in traffic school for 18 months. This is per California Vehicle Code 41501. In some circumstances, the court may rule in your favor and permit your attendance at traffic school. This is why our traffic violator course has an easy final exam with an easy retake; we don’t want anybody to slip through the cracks. All you need to get is 70% on one of the tests, and you’ll pass!

By taking an online traffic school course, can I remove a ticket from my record? Can I prevent an increase in my insurance rate?

Yes! One point violation (the equivalent of one ticket for something minor) will be masked from your driving record, and your insurance provider won’t be able to see it. Therefore, the rate will stay the same, and you won’t have to pay the ridiculous amount the rate would go up due to the violation.

Is your traffic course open to commercial drivers?

The court might permit enrollment if the driver was operating a noncommercial vehicle when the infraction occurred but had a commercial driver’s license. They will be obliged to submit the Driver’s License Correction Request form to request eligibility. Call the DMV’s Mandatory Actions Unit at 916-657-6525 for more information or look at the 2022 California Rules of Court.

Why am I charged both for the administrative fee and the traffic school enrollment fee?

The state-obligatory fee is paid to the court so that the option of traffic school enrollment is accessible. Although licensed by the DMV, the traffic school is not affiliated with the local court that handles your citation. Luckily, Rapid Traffic offers the cheapest enrollment cost in California, so give us a call right away.

How long will it take complete your traffic school course?

You are the one in charge. So, unless your court date is approaching, you don’t have to hurry up to complete the courses. Even though our students finish it in an average of 6 hours, you don’t have to rush as long as your court date is not around the corner.

Will my traffic course progress be saved as I work?

You can come back to your course at any time because it will be automatically saved.

How long do points stay on my record in California?

If you don’t take a traffic school course, whether online or in person, points can stay on your record for as many as 3 years. However, taking a DMV-approved traffic school course will prevent those points from ever showing up in the first place!

How is your traffic school final examination formatted? How long will I have to complete it?

There are 25 multiple-choice questions during your final test. You are given 60 minutes to complete them. You must accurately answer at least 18 questions out of 25 to pass the test.
